While at a local airshow at a small airport I noticed this old airplane engine with a nest on top of it. Did not see the bird building it but it looked like a safe place to homestead

This masked weaver comes to my garden every year, in the middle of the winter, and starts building nests as if there is no tomorrow.

Great-crested Grebe I photographed last year. Meant to go back to see the young but didn't make it. Will return this year and hope there is a nest again.

Can you guess what built this? I tossed my machete which is about 24” long for scale.

Most of the time they make the typical bowl shape like most birds do, and it doesn’t look like it was ever packed down from use after it was constructed.
I’m guessing something may have frightened them off. I think this was made by feral hogs. It was a bit too far from water to be Alligators.

This is a termite next, inside the Namutoni camp in the Etosha reserve. It is more than 3 meters tall, and is only part of a larger nest underground. Although it is locally called an ant-hill, a termite is not an ant at all.
