I lived in the neighborhood about 15 years ago, and visited that spot just a year ago. The characters were inside the bar as I recall. With all the captive NJ commuters waiting for their ride home at night, it was one of just a few options. I remember regulars like a couple of diamond district jeweler brothers whose names rhymed, actors, pianists, blue collar workers, a wise guy, an Australian barmaid, prostitutes, fortune tellers, etc. I miss the old Hell's Kitchen.

It was obviously painted the same color as the paint on the pavement so that it would blend in and not stick out so much. .
