Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This week the theme is Out of Place. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

Show us things that are Out of Place...

Here are the rules:

  • Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives.

  • Shots need to be taken between Tuesday, after the new theme is posted and the following Monday by sunset (Whenever that is for you).

  • Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!

  • Post your shots at any time during the week.

  • Please abide by the Focus on Photography posting rules.

  • Please keep your contributions to a maximum of 4 images or less.
As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

That's it!

Have fun!

Why did I wear earplugs to take this photo? Because the freezer compartment is the temporary home of a smoke detector that went rogue five days ago and refused to stop its irregularly timed bursts of loud sound (in groups of three). The detector could have gone off while I was photo-ing. It didn't, but I was prepared. All that lovely insulation in the freezer reduces the annoying sound to faint chirps that sound like a tiny bird. They're a bit louder if you open the refrigerator door, but still tolerable.

What you are describing is a detector that has a dead (back-up) battery or else it has reached the end of its useful life span. Usually it's a fairly easy DIY to replace.

Thanks, but this detector is ten years old and would have been replaced if I'd wanted one in that spot, just a few feet from another one (different room), which is new. I had thought this one was already dead. When this model sings its death song, the noise comes in single beeps, not triples, and is softer and at longer intervals, and lasts only an hour or so. "Fairly easy" is relative, too. Any task that requires reaching to the ceiling with nothing to hold onto, I ask someone else to do.
