Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This week the theme is Vanishing Point. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

Show us some Vanishing Points...

Here are the rules:

  • Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives.
  • Shots need to be taken between Tuesday, after the new theme is posted and the following Monday by sunset (Whenever that is for you).
  • Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
  • Post your shots at any time during the week.
  • Please abide by the Focus on Photography posting rules
That’s it! Have fun! As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

That's it!

Have fun!

Isn't the vanishing point supposed to show? I don't often get to a place where lines converge on a horizon. Things are in the way, and most streets around here end at other streets. This is typical:

Yes, but this works.. Close enough for gov't work.. ;)
I'm looking for a continuous street long enough

Two views in opposite directions on the same road.
This is 0 Road. It runs along the border here. The first
photo is looking east. The road is in Canada and the trees on the right are in the USA.2024.05.23 303.jpg

Photo2 is the reverse looking west. Road is Canada, beyond the hydro pole on the left
is the USA.

That's something special! Curiouser and curiouser, as little Alice said. If a cop stops you and you pull over to the shoulder, can you go free because you've left the officer's jurisdiction?

It's a relief that both Canada and the U.S. drive on the right. I had to look this up (for Canada).

Great examples of Vanishing Point ::John:: I especially like the vertical, it really Vanishes!
Just what is that structure?

It is known as Telstra Tower on Black Mountain. Telstra is one of the telcos here - originally, before a fibre cable was buried between Canberra and the nearest large town, this was the only in and out for telecommunications for the city. It also hosts antennas for taxi and emergency services. It used to have a revolving restaurant, a cafe and an observation deck but that has all been closed for a few years now while 'they' decide its fate.

I also think it is pretty cool that this road exists like this. The whole road and shoulder here is on the Canadian side so no getting out of that ticket. There are some places where it is farmland on the other side and just a ditch to separate the countries. Also some areas where people in the USA have backyards that back right up almost to the road.
