Every week we select a new theme, and then go out and shoot that theme. This week the theme is Fragile. As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

Let's see some Fragile examples this week!

Here are the rules:

  • Because this activity is supposed to encourage us to get out and shoot, please don't post old shots from your archives.
  • Shots need to be taken between Tuesday, after the new theme is posted and the following Monday by sunset (Whenever that is for you).
  • Snapshots and art are equally welcome -- just get out & shoot, and then share!
  • Post your shots at any time during the week.
  • Please abide by the Focus on Photography posting rules.
  • Please keep your contributions to a maximum of 4 images or less.
As always be as imaginative/creative as you like when interpreting the theme, creativity is what we're looking for.

That's it!

A hummingbird's nest balanced on a telephone wire, with a stick for counterbalance.
The wiring has pulled out of the underside of the shed roof and is literally hanging...
I think after yesterday's windstorm, she will be abandoning this nest.

Turns out that 22 year old shingles are too fragile to handle 100 KPH winds. Was able to replace the entire shingle on the left. With the missing and damaged tabs on the right I had to go with pushing a single tab under the missing tab. That is because the right edges of these shingles are very firmly cemented at the valley. Roof is still watertight but I'll probably replace it this year.

Here's an idea you may be able to apply, depending on how your house is oriented. When we had the roof replaced in 2000, we asked for heavier shingles on the side that gets more storm damage (prevailing winds) and lighter shingles, which are less expensive, on the other side. The roofer said he'd never done that before, but he did it.

I'm old enough that any new roof will probably outlive me. Looking at a lot of choices. If I go regular 3 tabs I can go over the current roof.

The heavier shingles last longer but I suspect are harder to lift the edges if you need to remove nails in order to replace a shingle or two. Because of the extra weight it would also mean removing the current shingles.

Then there is metal.
