Another method for having extra creative fun with stills photographs which I need to remember how to do, now that I'm "feeling red-hot" for FoP.

Add your shots here, and if anyone is new to the mysterious world of "layers", feel free to talk/ask about that, too.

A third thing to play with, using layers is isolating and selectively editing something in your image.

I've no doubt an app will do this effect now, but it's still interesting as a demonstration of how accurately you can alter one detail.1000008886.jpg

Not usually a fan of selective coloring but this one is great!

Thanks a lot.
I did this about 16 years ago, way before AI editing came along.

I'm not a fan either, but as an example, it's useful ☺️

I use layer masks for retouching, but the goal is to make the end result look unedited. It's definitely not fun or very creative.
Ah, but you're being paid actual real money to get that polished finish.
And that's because you're highly talented.

And retouching is a use of layer masks I've not even mentioned...
...so if possible, please do add some of your "before/after" shots to demonstrate the results 🤩👍

I appreciate that, thank you.

Some folks believe that men don't need, or shouldn't be retouched. I personally don't subscribe to the belief that either gender needs to be handled one way or another, but lately I have been trying to do less skin retouching altogether. Sometimes none at all if I can get away with it, especially with my personal work. These are about a year old, so they represent examples of my retouching that are a little heavier handed than my current approach, but I think show the effect well. I use curves adjustment layers with masks to dodge and burn areas of the skin to blend the skin tones better together, as well as hue/saturation adjustment layers to fix any distracting color issues in the skin, such as red eyes, inflamed skin, or glowing ears in back lit photos. The blemish removal is mostly done with the spot healing tool, not layer masks.
