Threads I have just posted to do not show up in New Posts list ... can this change?

When I post to an existing thread, then click on the "New posts" thingy at the top left of the page, the thread that I just posted to does not show up there. Even when I come back a half hour later, it does not appear. Even when others come along and post right after me, the thread still doesn't appear on the New posts list. For some bizarre reason, it is as if posts that a user has recently posted to are excluded from the New posts list, which is weird. Is there any way this can be fixed, or are we just stuck with it being this way?

PS: I have never "hidden" any sections of the forum, nor will I ever do so, so that can be eliminated as a possible reason as to why this is happening.

Tom, the default setting for New Posts is to show only "unread" posts. Since you just posted in the thread your post is not included for you in New Posts.

However, you can easily change that. In New Posts, click on "Filters" and change what you want to see in New Posts. And don't forget to set that as your default.

Tom, take a look at the "filters" dropdown that's situated on the righthand side of the page above the topmost thread. You don't want any of those boxes selected.

Thanks Levina!

Thanks Matt!

It worked! Although it took me 5 tries to get it to work, because one has to click multiple things in a certain order within that FILTER dropdown thing, and it isn't intuitive and I kept guessing wrong. But eventually got it right, so we're good now. I would never have thought that default would be to not see threads I have posted to, that is counter-intuitive ..... although I realize that what is intuitive and what is not can vary from person to person, and I tend to be an exception for many things. But I really can't wrap my head around why anyone would ever not want to see the threads they've posted to appear in the new posts list.

Ah, but such a thread would show up in New Posts again once somebody else posted something new in it! So it might actually be quite handy to not have New Posts cluttered up with threads you already read and only get a list of well, new posts.

Yes, of course! That is exactly what I would think anyone and everyone would want.

Ok, I can see what you mean, although I would always want the list to be "cluttered up" with them. lol. I suppose it is good that you cater to people who want to see different things, lets us all view things in a way that is comfortable to us, just in case there is someone out there who doesn't want to see the threads they have engaged in.

Okay, just to make sure you understand this correctly: with the filter set to Unread you don't see a thread in New Posts if your post in it was the last one in that thread. But as soon as somebody else posts something after you, that thread will be in New Posts again, as there is now an unread post in it.

But, yeah, I have all filters set to off too, so I see everything. And the threads that have no new posts are in normal font (not bold) in New Posts anyway, indicating there is no new content in there.

My filter is set to Unread. I went back and forth between this thread and New Posts to check what happens. Here's something strange. After I read your latest post, Levina, Post #7, the thread was no longer bold in New Posts, but it didn't rise to the top of the list. From the right edge of New Posts:

If you have the filter set to "Unread" and read this thread, it shouldn't show up at all for you in New Posts. Did you maybe use backspace to go back and forth or use the back&forth browser arrows (up top) instead of refreshing the page? Just a guess. In any case I can't replicate this.

My keyboard is different. "Delete" or a two-finger leftward swipe goes back without refreshing. Tapping "New posts" refreshes. Anyway, I don't recall which one I used that time. In New Posts, the time of the last post updates automatically, but a new post won't necessarily drive a thread to the top. People might miss something as a result.

But it does. Look:

Could it be that you're looking at What's New and at Latest Threads, where the order is determined by the time the thread was created, and not the latest post?

No, I always look at New Posts, directly under Home. The screenshot I posted is from New Posts.

Well, then I’m sorry to say I don’t know what’s going on, OhLook. So maybe it is related to using the backspace (delete) button or maybe your browser’s cache needs clearing. I have tried to replicate the issue but can’t. Not sure what else I can do.

Thanks for trying. The problem reminds me of the glitches in Alerts. Maybe it's due to a flaw in XF's code.
