A view of the Milky Way from the OMSI Hancock Field Station in Central Oregon. Very dark skies. This was a single 87 second shot with my Canon 6D and a Rokinon 14mm/F2.8 UWA on an iOptron Skytracker mount.

We are very blessed in New Zealand with some amazing dark skies, some only an hour from the centre of Auckland

Splendid images, Gary! It’s interesting how the Milky Way curves the opposite way from down under from how it does from the Northern Hemisphere. You’re looking at it from the opposite direction, I guess.

I wish we didn't have such a small window to shoot the MW here in the UK, but I do get out with the night skies all year round tbh.

My biggest interests are really full arch panoramas & shooting on film tbh simply because of the challenges involved!

Is the thread Milky Way Core only @West Coast Birder ?? Or other night sky images such as constellations & start trails?

Anyway, I'd waited 3 years I think to get this vertical August image of the Milky Way over Stonehenge here in England.

Beautiful image. Living around Houston, the concept of a dark sky means a week of vacation time and a 10 hour drive... And then you've got to get lucky with the clouds. I missed the entire Perseids in 2021 due to 3 cloudy nights. I get what you're saying and it is always something special to be able to capture an image like you've got there.

T.A. Moulton Barn and the Milky Way. Grand Teton National Park, WY. This is a composite image shot from the same location. The barn was a roughly 5 1/2 minute shot and the Milky Way was a 30 second shot. Combined in Photoshop. The light from the right is actually the moon that had not completely set. I thought it was going to ruin my shot, but it turned out to illuminate the barn quite nicely. Thanks for looking.Moulton Barn and Milky Way.jpg
