Indeed

Although plenty of macro shots of insects are astounding technically, there's always space for an image showing their environment

Agreed. I should take more environmental shots.

I don't know but as we tend to see images electronically rather than as prints these days there is a sub-concious drive to get in close to make the most of the limited display resolution.

But it is refreshing to show a wider view.
