Subtropical Australian Frogs

I was up in tropical Far North Queensland for work again this week, and found a few White-lipped Tree Frogs at night. Here are a couple of images.

All great shots Stephen! Are these two shots of the same frog? I’m curious about the larger fold surrounding the tympanum. Is it due to it turning away in the lower image, or is that maybe a male / female difference? Also is the bottom image a female? I’ve never seen that busty look rather than a single rounded belly.
Thanks for sharing!

Thanks very much, Keith. This was two different individuals, possibly both female (?). I think the differences in the supratympanic fold that you noticed are due to the fact that in the first photo the head is turned slightly towards the camera, whereas in the second it is turned slightly away from the camera.

Great shots Stephen! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Keith! Here are some more from the last week:

Wow, especially the first one is fantastic! Love the pose and colors.

"Contemplating the Cosmos"

I took a photo of our resident Green Tree Frog ‘Frida’ earlier this week, in which she appears to be gazing up at the sky and contemplating the universe… which gave me an idea. :)

I captured the background in this composite image (which features the Moon and Venus setting under the arch of the Milky Way) at Wivenhoe Dam a couple of years ago. The location is a nice habitat for Green Tree Frogs, so this image kind of works. 🐸

WOW, Stephen, you packed a lot into that one incredible image, but it seems like something is missing. There ought to be some sort of spaceship up where that frog is looking. That species looks like it could have gotten a role part in the bar scenes in a Star Wars movie! Ha. 😵‍💫

Great idea! Although a little more room beneath him would've been nice. Fantastic image!
