Sony Lounge Thread GM-CR MK IV-A

Not strictly a Sony question but the answer might be Sony. My wife wants to get into photography just for family photos/family daily life/ documenting the kids type stuff. She doesn’t want an ILC as doesn’t want the hassle of it. Honestly the x100VI would be the perfect option for the nice sooc joegs but at £1500 and the fact I’ll be paying for it 🤣 I’m trying to look at different options. She doesn’t want to get into the editing side if she can avoid it.

Anyone got any suggestions? Is the zv-e10 II and kit lens a good camera (i.e the Sony AF we all love) or is it more a video camera? (I know I said no ILC but open to those options too and she can just use the one lens). Are there older and now cheaper Fuji options I should look at. Should I just get a used x100V etc?

Thanks in advance
to me, small pocket cameras are too limited even if they are good for what they are. id go for a small ILC with kit lens, and have the option of a standard wide aperture later like a 35 or 50 1.8 to add for portraits. Cory is still sporting his crop sony for the longest time and documenting his family and adventures very well.

Thanks guys. Lee - hadn’t thought of the Ricoh, this might be a good excuse for me to finally try one

The lack of viewfinder makes it a No for me, personally. But for someone who hasn't been a "photographer" and is used to phone shooting, it might be worth a try. 28mm focal length though isn't it?

Oh yeah forgot about the viewfinder situation, would be ok for her I imagine but probably a no for me. The normal ones are 28mm and the x versions are 40mm I think

Hi all, nice to see a bit of chat on here.

My gear contribution is that I’m trying to convince myself I need an 85mm to fill the gap between my 50 and 135. The sigma 1.4 is currently in top spot - we are spoilt for options now huh! I came across your review whilst looking Daniel!

And love that second shot Lee, very cool.

I was also in Bruges last weekend - will share some pics soon.
85mm is a great focal length and I find it can be a bit more versatile than something longer, especially indoors. Thanks for looking at my review and I would still say I like the 85mm Art the most, the price and rendering is beautiful.

Hi folks. I geeked out pretty hard on the autumn colors here in Boise yesterday. Figured I'd share a set!

these are great. I especially like the shot with the ground level trees. it looks like a pathway. thanks for sharing. no fall colors where I live. have to adore from media

my experience with a 85 is more for portraits. I've never experience with a 135, but i'm sure it's a beast! 50mm to 85mm is already a difference. I used to use the 50mm quite often but now more of the 85mm for 1-2 person portrait. sometimes it may be too cropped with 2 ppl. I think if I had the 105 or the 135 I would strictly use for a 1 person portrait to get the nice bokeh back ground :D

But that 200 f2 !! *drools

Midday sun or not, the framing of the last one is really nice.

I had to work for them a bit! I couldn't get the 'standard' shot with the cross and the lighthouse, that was directly against the light so I didn't even bother. Thanks Jon.

does anyone use 3rd party battery ? If so, what brand?

I'm thinking of being cheap to get 1-2 for standbys... I'm liking the ones where you have the option to charge with a usbc cable directly into the battery and not needing a separate charger or charging in camera.

pretty good and clean !
Thank you. I’ll admit it has been worked a little in post! Denoise and some mask sharpening!

On the battery thing, in recent years I’ve just always had two Canon or Sony ones. In my view I’ll take the pain once, and fortunately Sony haven’t changed the battery for a while, so it’s been a good buy.

Still good. I need to get around in trying out denoise.

Thank you. Ive had only 1x3rd party nikon battery and it hasn't been an issue at all. Been reading a bit more and some users had problem with them. Dying on them or causing heat, I don't think I want to be part of that low % of bad luck, for I am full of bad luck :P

yes the sony z battery are good. Glad they didn't stick with the old W that doesnt hold charge well and have less juice. The Z cost a lot now.. I have 3, more than enough for my needs, but needing to shoot more video may require more. decisions decisions...

I have used third party eBay/Amazon on all my cameras. Not sure on the brands though, they keep changing so are probably all the same anyway!

I've been using Neewer batteries for many years, pre Sony too, I bought a twin pack at the same time as buying the A9 5 years ago and they both are still working fine though they give the third party message with the A1 so I bought a new triple pack just over two years ago which work as well as the OEM and no funky message. The triple pack and a charger was about the same price as a single OEM. No regrets here.
