Nice shots Paul, would love to visit Kauai. I visited oahu last year for the second time but that’s the only island I’ve been. It’s almost the furthest point away on earth I can visit from where I liveSome Hawaii - Kauai pics with the 20-70 f/4 I like the lens but still a bit unsure.

I haven't used this particular lens but I did own a 16mm prime with Canon and I was mixed on it. I feel with certain focal lengths/ranges you can't really zoom with your feet so a zoom is better suited. With me, 16mm fit that in many different situations so I tend to lean to zooms for anything wider than maybe 24mm but that may just be me.Just realised there’s a Sony 16mm f/1.8 G lens now, totally missed that release. Anyone got any experience of it? Seems to be cheaper than the 16-25G lens.
Yeah that’s a fair point and I do prefer uwa zooms too. When I check the images I like taken with those zooms they are usually always at the widest angle, I don’t seem to use much of the zoom range in practice when that wide. I’m still considering swapping my 16-36GM for the 16-25G for the size and weight savings. I’ve booked up for Iceland again next March so got a bit of time to decide on that one.

I've heard the Viltrox 16mm is supposed to be a good lens.....
Thanks David, I don’t need 2.8 in that lens. I’ve seen the PZ mentioned a lot but never paid it much attention. Going to make a point now of looking into It furtherWhen the FE 16G came out I instantly thought it was an astro lens and a youtuber lens…other than that I haven’t comprehended a solid use case. Nonetheless, it’s a really cool lens and it’s hard not to have a little bout of GAS about it. But, I quickly came to the same opinion…I’d be better off with a uwa zoom than a 16mm prime.
Do you need F2.8? I get the sense that the PZ 16-35mm F4 is sharper, and very very small/light. Anyway, that’s the lens I’d love to have because for landscapes F4 is plenty fast and I find 35mm a frequently used landscape focal length, so I’m valuing more range than speed on an UWA zoom. But, if 2.8 is more important then the FE 16-25mm would indeed be great to have!
Anyway, congrats on booking Iceland again…that’s so great!!
David - have you seen any decent reviews of the PZ? I was surprised to find there are no FM forum threads on the lens. I have the MK1 16-35 GM and have read that the 16-25 G is slightly sharper although obviously less range. It’s also smaller and lighter and the 67mm filter size matches my GM primes. What I’m trying to work out now is where the PZ slots in when compared with the other two.
I’m going to dive into some YouTube reviews tonight when I get a minute and see if I can find the answer
I have the PZ and really enjoy it, I was considering selling it for the 16-25mm but I found myself using the 25-35mm range too much on the lens to give it up.Thanks David, I’ll check Jason morris and the others you mentioned. A lot of the reviews seem to be the 16-25 or 16-35 pz vs the GM2, I’m struggling to find reviews of them against each other. The pz and G are the same price new so can’t make my mind up![]()
I really like that first shot Jonathan, if you didn’t see I would have thought it was shot with something different given the look of it. Yeah the f/2.8 can be hard to beat, I’d love to have that hence why I was considering the 16-25mm myself but the weight of my PZ and range is something I can’t let go ofHi all, I managed another morning trip into the centre at the weekend. This time the weather was a bit naff and we nearly didn't bother, but I forgot moody skies and puddles can sometimes help! All with the 16-35mm GM. BTW, the above messages got me thinking about the 20mm 1.8 again - which I'd need to sell the 16-35 for. Daniel, you summarised it well above. As much as I'd like the 16-35 to be smaller, I do use all the range. And I need something fast'ish in that range in case I ever manage to find the energy for astro again!

Nice set Daniel! Not sure how I missed you having that lens. I’m leaning towards the PZ I think as don’t need f/2.8 in that range. I wish the PZ was 67mm filter though.I have the PZ and really enjoy it, I was considering selling it for the 16-25mm but I found myself using the 25-35mm range too much on the lens to give it up.
It’s also internal zoom compared to the 16-25mm and 100g or so lighter. Here’s my Flickr Album if you like.

Thanks Eddie and if you don’t need f/2.8 then it’s a beautiful lens, you can easily carry it and not even feel it with how light it is. I use square filters so the filter size doesn’t bother me thankfully lol.Nice set Daniel! Not sure how I missed you having that lens. As an aside, after viewing your images I’m now adding Shibuya Sky to my Japan itinerary!
