Skies That Look Unreal...but aren't!

If I am not mistaken, that looks like an example of lenticular clouds. As usual, mountains are involved in their genesis...

Coincidentally, I took this shot on Sunday...

That was at Altnaharra, which at the time was downwind of Ben Klibreck, which I reckon was the source of the clouds.

It's good that you put the reference to Ben Kilbreck in, otherwise people might have thought that Ben was a rather gassy fellow.

Mammatus clouds on June 30 of this year. These clouds are quite rare, at least in this area ... in fact, I don't remember ever having seen clouds like this before.

They even made headlines in local newspapers and internet news sites:

"It was not a bird, a plane, popcorn, cotton balls or giant cow udders in the skies above Bucks County on Sunday evening.

So what was it? A unique weather phenomenon ....."

Click the link above if you are interested in reading more about this unreal sky event ..... the pics there are much better than mine.

Lower Glendevon Reservoir, 27 May 2017. Low, localised cloud on the right. Very low, and very localised as it happens...
