Canilevered!... There are no earthquakes in Japan!... Right?

Gerry, thanks for the humorous comment.
Luckily, Southern Kyushu is on a different tectonic plate to the north, and Honshu, where Tokyo is.
So although we do have earthquakes (which always give me the willies ), they don't tend to go over 5.5 on the Richter scale.
And everyone is insured.
And city tax is horrendous...
...so despite it seeming bonkers-bananas, I wish I'd done this too, when I designed our house.
