Thought it would be nice to recreate this thread I started over at POTN a long time ago. I will copy/paste the exact verbiage. :)

"I was wondering that it would be cool to post pictures in two parts: first, post picture(s) to show us your setup (placement of camera, strobes, reflectors, etc.) and then the final result(s) of that setup. You would also list all of your equipments (shown in picture #1) that you used to produce the final result(s)."

And just for fun, I used my backup camera, manually set aperture/shutter speed/iso and periodically took a picture so you can see the loss of light. If you look at the table, you can see my setup so the image still ties in. :-)

This will be a great thread. I loved the original one, learned so much there and got inspired by other's posts. I really haven't thought of taking a setup shot in recent years, but will plan on it again. Maybe I can find some of my old setups. FYI, I started a Facebook group for this subject a couple years ago, but could never get enough involvement from the few members that joined. Hopefully this will be more active.

JJ, those eclipse setups and pics bring back great memories from 2017. Great job on those. I think we saw exactly the same thing at the same time!

I set off to western Nebraska to an area known for very reduced cloud cover to increase my chances. It worked, but barely. Dense clouds just before and just after the action. To this day, that was the most time consuming and planned photo setup I've ever done for a small sequence of shots. I am amazed it all worked, frankly. Yes, that's me below. Another cam on a tripod to record the event.

If this 8+ minute Vimeo embed works, then there is my setup. It can be sped up to 2x.

These macro configurations can be intense! The creativity in set design always amazes me. Your results show the dedication of what must be a lot of trial and error.

...

THat's where I was. The plan was to head straight up 35 then up 77 to someplace outside Beatrice but when I got there, it was very foggy and cloudy as well so I started driving west zig-zagging to keep as close to the center path as possible. I ended up a couple miles north of a tiny town called Tryon by route 92/97. Found a small rest stop almost exactly on the center line of the eclipse.

I had to look up Tryon. You weren't really all that far away, were you? I camped for two days in Hemingford, NE. Gallery here: https://www.davidwattsphotography.com/Other/Totally-Solar/
I left early in the morning, like midnight think, and drove straight through. I have to correct my position. I tried to find it on Google Earth and it took me a bit but I found it. I was headed to Tryon but things cleared up earlier so I stopped at Mason city a few miles east of Tryon. (I believe the city in the name is meant jokingly as it's even smaller than Tryon. :) ) Still, we were very close. :-)

I hesitate to post anything here because what I do when taking these kinds of pics is rather laughable, but here you go, just to show you don't need fancy set-ups to get certain shots.

Set-up #1
Whiteboard on an ironing board. A background of sorts, natural light coming in from the left from a window due south, a DIY reflector, a tripod.

That's not laughable, it's brilliant. I'm totally a fan of using what you have available to get an image.
