But it's not. I didn't notice until I looked at it in the computer. White balance is daylight, but it was in the shade approaching sunset.

Google lens says male vermilion flycatcher which does live year-round in my area according to Wikipedia. Here's another one with more red from a previous outing.

Since you comment that the WB is wrong, why not change it? It's easy enough to do, even with a JPEG. I fiddled with this a bit in Photoshop. Just a quick and dirty edit, nothing careful. I boosted exposure by a third of a stop, increased temperature by 7, and increased tint (moving in the magenta direction) by 9. I increased saturation a bit. Not a good edit, and a little too orange, but enough to show that with a bit of time, you can get close to the right color, assuming the second shot is the right color.
