I've opened a ticket with XenForo, asking for advice. We had members being blocked by the server due to blacklisted IP's before. Hopefully they can help again.

In the mean time I am here on my Mac via VPN. Works well.

I will try on my internet tonight again ten hours from now but it seems to be working from my phone on router only so that seems hopeful.

I have a suite of IP lookup tools I use admin’ing elsewhere. Some deep diving into it more when I get home from work. We used to have to unblock a range of IP’s every now and then when a member moved to an untrustworthy country or area that we had completely blocked. Thing is now the automated tools like SFS and Askimet plug-ins can assume things and wreck access at more than one site without human intervention until needed to undo the damage. Dang internet!

David, we had a reply from XenForo. It was something on their end and things should be back to normal now. It is for me. Can you confirm that everything works for you now too?

Yep, day before yesterday I couldn't log in on Safari - I tried Firefox and same. 2019 Mac Pro MacOS V14.5, Safari V17.5.

I'm back to normal here. There's a few other internet places that are not right, and probably for the same reason we've been talking about. I have yet to do my due diligence deep dive into personal IP#'s and lists.

The problems specific to our forum were caused by XenForo implementing a new system for Cloud to better identify and ban certain bots and there were some hiccups that needed to be fixed. They're fixed now and FoP is working well again.

But I read that there were also problems with Google unable to connect to certain servers? It was in the news here in the Netherlands but I don't know how widespread that was.

And yes, IP's being blacklisted happens too. A VPN takes care of that. I used Proton, Swiss based. It has a free version that works pretty well but you can only use it on one device and it uses only 6 servers so it can be a bit slow. I took a month's subscription with Mullvad. Swedish based. You can use it on multiple devices. Worked great for me.

It obviously didn't affect everyone becase I had plenty of "likes" posted during this outage, mostly from members in the US, but also in the UK. Maybe this was the Google problem mentioned by Levina, but all other sites I used were OK.

1. Check Is it down or similar

2. Get a VPN. I can recommend Proton Free VPN - it has no adds.

It’s so annoying when that happens. I felt totally lost and cut off when I couldn’t reach FoP. A VPN saved the day.

Jack, I don’t know if it was Google that caused your problems but from what I read, only certain servers were affected. Then again, it could be XF’s new anti-bot implementation. They did say it needed more tweaking.

Is everything working okay for you now? Because if not I can contact my XF guy again.

Thanks, Levina. Everything seems to be working perfectly now. It was as if I'd been given a 12-hour ban by someone or something. I was uploading photos at the time, so maybe you're right about that anti-bot implementation.
