everywhere ive looked (online CAMERA stores BH, Adorama, Allens) the G7X III is backordered or out of stock.

this camera was announced in 2019 (not sure when it was first released) so i wouldnt think they would have stopped making them.

my wife has an old T2i and i got her the beautiful 17-55 f2.8 NON-L L lens which is a great piece of glass but she has lots of arthritis issues and its just too hard for her to hold up and shoot with. i want to stay Canon but no one has the G7X III. any leads on this?

They are even out of stock on the Canon website.

If I can offer a different sort of suggestion: I've shot Canons much of the time for decades, and my main camera is an R6 II. I've been very happy with Canon, for the most part. However, when you look at cameras without interchangeable lenses, there isn't much reason to stick with any one brand, since you aren't going to be sharing lenses, etc. In addition, the ergonomics would be completely different on a T2i and a G7X. When I wanted a small camera to tote around, I bought a different brand.

So, my suggestion is that if the GX7 doesn't come back in stock, look at others. There are quite a few good compact cameras. And given the problem of arthritis, it might be better to pick based on ergonomics rather than brand.

The G7X III is being replaced by the Powershot V1, soon to be released. I posted about it just this morning here. Maybe you can wait for that? Specs look good.

i looked at the V1. it is really limited with the optical zoom. she's used the 17-55 and while not a stellar lens and much shorter than that on the G7, the 55-250 as well.

the V1 only has a 16-50mm lens while the G7 is 24-100. looking at DPReview, it shows the G7 with a 1" sensor (full frame?) while it doesnt have a size listed for the V1. maybe its an APS-C sensor so the zoom range is closer overall?

theres only a 2mp difference in that category, no internal flash (multifunction shoe) and retrograd 2.0 USB from 3.1 USB for connectivity? thats a backwards move.

if you know of any other cameras that are at least close to the G7m3 ill take that information. id be hard pressed to spend the extra money that Sony is going to demand...

went to the closest brick and mortar store this afternoon.

took her T2i and 17-55 f2.8 lens with us and looked at the Fuji XT-30, and the Canon R50. the R50 was marginally lighter and in the 2-lens kit she got the 18-45 (?) and 50-250 (?). its not as 'high as the Fuji' in a lot of numbers but the interface is at least somewhat familiar and its still more camera than she'll need. its a very small compact camera and with both of the lenses, there isnt as much torque factor on her wrists as the T2i so we brought it home.

we traded the 17-55 f2.8 in for $160 because my daughter already has one with her Rebel. i could have sold it outright for more, but im actually surprised they gave us that much. it was the top offer because the lens is super clean. all told with the trade, an extra Canon battery and tax, it was about $860...

just thought id update the thread
