I have been trying to downsize my images to the 1600x1600 and less than 1.6 meg which is a bit of a pain, or extra steps. So I decided to do a drag and drop,

the image as basically 3200x2400 and about 3.5 meg. the drag and drop allowed it and then it gave me the option to make it less than the size of the screen by dragging in the corner.

Should that work since the images are supposed to be 1600x1600, does it automatically downsize and make it smaller or should that not be allowed or not work?

I hesitated to post in an older thread, but I figure it is a related topic, and hence should be grouped in here:

Over the last few day I have posted some images as I get myself back into the saddle of enjoying "real camera" photography with zoom lenses and potential for birding, etc.

I had read (and partially forgotten about) the image posting rule about max 1600x1600, 1.6MB, but when I first did some image posting, I didn't use any images resized by me, but noticed the forum software seemed to accept them, so I guess it was auto-resizing.

Yesterday, I posted an image (a SOOC shot), then a short time later (before anyone commented) edited that same post to add a processed shot (because I had finally figured out how I wanted to PP using the new CR3 RAWs, at least for now).

When I attempted to upload the new image while editing the post, the Forum SW told me it was too big. "Oh yeah", I thought to myself, "the images should be limited to certain sizes. Let me fix that." So I resized it manually, and uploaded the smaller 1600x1100 or whatever file.

But then I thought, "wait, what about the other images I have posted?" (Yes, I talk to myself a lot, no-one else listens...) Well, they all seem to be within the Forum limits of 1600x1600, 1.6MB. So I guess the forum software knows to auto-resize when making a new post image upload, but when doing a post edit to add content the forum SW will not auto-resize - it is now up to the user to do so beforehand.

Does that sound right / make sense?

I just did a drag and drop test into this thread (but didn't hit "Post comment"). I did not use any of the insert image tools on top, but merely dragged the image into the body of the posting text box, and whaddayaknow? Boom - it just worked! The image was even larger than the 1600px limit. Was actually 3024 x 4032px. Bananadance

Below was 5000px wide file, the original full-size 8192px jpeg failed to import. (both using drag/drop method)

Maybe the forum can downsize images if they are not to big but really big images are refused?

I should add, that as well as dropping the width, I also had to drop the filesize below 5MB

Just a follow-up: for the last three days or so, the forum sw has _not_ allowed me to upload an image that is "too big", even on an initial response ("comment") (unedited) post.

So now I'm having to resize prior to posting.
