Deciding on one’s favourite shots is always difficult, but I thought it would be a good idea to see the two favourite shots you took during the year. To make it even more interesting, I suggest two CONTRASTING shots, I.e. in two different genres of photography. Here are my two for starters, one in BW street photography (actually it's on an old railway station) and one an insect macro shot. Over to you….

Good idea for a thread. These are among my two favorite photos from 2023.

Leopard in Tanzania.

Portrait of a veteran.

a 'fashion' shoot (which i would like to get more into)

My favorite shots are always going to be the photos I take of my brother Vinnie.

And since this is literally the only photo I took that WASN'T a portrait in 2023, here's a landscape shot I took in Canyonlands Utah during a road trip with my brother.

Sorry this is not in two different genres, but I like how this works as a diptych. Severine was a very unhappy accountant. I asked her to come to our session wearing her regular accounting clothes, and for the first part we chatted about what her former job was like and she discussed how unhappy she was. I candidly photographed while we chatted and in her first portrait you can see the tension in every part of her.

She left her old profession to pursue her passion of being a child entertainer. I asked her to change in to what she wears when she performs at children's parties and show me what she usually does with the kids. She blew bubbles, juggled, made balloon animals, and danced. I like that you can visibly see how much happier she is in the second picture, when she's doing what she loves.

Great job capturing the contrast between moments. I had a supervisor that, when he thought I needed a pick up, asked me about my dog or asked me about photography. Ha ha. Night and day for me.

Cool thread. First image is a full moon capture. I purchased a 70-300 and started to learn more about planning in Photo Pils. This image is from the first time I went out to capture a full moon at sunset.

Second image is from a Saturday morning drive-around during the Texas Spring Bluebonnet season, just randomly taking some back roads. I dumbed into this scene and nearly pooped myself.

Dang! Dang! Dang! On BOTH of them, but more so on the landscape, that is probably your best, and that's saying something.
(Not saying that the rest here are not great too, 'cause this is a GOOD thread!)

Howdy sir, and thanks so much! Like I mentioned, it was just a random turn down a random road at the right time of day. Sometimes the fates shine our way :)
