Post your small town photos

Some detail shots from Marathon TX, town of ~400 people. This version is run through Topaz for a softer feel than the original composite work. Marathon is going through a renaissance due to a major hotel renovation and, I'll tell ya', it is fabulous. Plus, they're pet friendly in a few rooms so we could bring our boy along. (The downside was that I accidentally took my fella into an art gallery with 30,000 dollar artwork on the walls.). I understand this type of shot isn't necessarily showcasing the town itself, but so much of the truly small town experience is defined by the land around it.

You should post the 'unmelted' version you have on Flickr. I really like that one. :)

Arrowtown, South Island, New Zealand, a gold rush town of the 1860s and not much changed since then, except for traffic. It took me quite a while to get a shot devoid of parked cars; there was no hope of getting free of people as well. There are large car and coach parks nearby, so I don't know why they don't ban cars from the town itself. It looks a lot better without traffic.

Nice concept .. I love seeing the town from afar and from within. It makes it far more real about the size and situation on the land.

The number of bikes on the sidewalks and the one in the street tells us the mode of transportation the local residents prefer. You have to be in pretty good shape to be bicycling in that territory because NOTHING is flat around there. :D

Cripple Creek, Colorado. They still mine gold there today, by tearing a mountain down, leeching the gold out, and using the spoils to build a replacement mountain.

My sister was a bartender for almost 10 years at a bar/casino (Black Diamond Casino) directly across the street in that block. Very interesting town. I've never done the mine tour.

Nor did I do the tour. I've been in many mines in past years, no need for more. Thanks for the comment, David.

So few photos in this thread feature architecture that Urban Life and Travel might be a better place. I think it was in that forum at POTN, begun as a counterpart to some urban threads.

I always have trouble finding it here, have to search. It seems to fit better in Travel.
