Post Your Non-Insect Macro Photos

An ancient grain.. Grown in the Americas and outlawed by the Spainish while conquering the First People, Incas, and Mayans.
Highly nutritious and is now considered a weed... but, Red Hill millers sell it. I've not eaten it, but I might give it a try

Frozen Bubble #2. 🙂

We had another few very cold days, so I had another go at photographing frozen bubbles. I like the feather-like crystals in this one. Hopefully the coldest days are behind us though! 🥶

Melissa, that’s incredible! I would like to know what you use to produce the bubble, and how cold does it need to be? How long do they last? Is the bottom frozen, while the top half is still liquid in this shot?
How many tries did you take to get this beautiful shot? Congrats for getting it, and thanks for sharing.

Thanks, Keith! I use dish liquid, sugar, and corn syrup dissolved in warm water. (If you would like details on how to make it, just let me know.) I have read that it needs to be at least -10°C (14°F). It was -17°C when I took the above photo.

The frozen bubbles can last quite a while if there is no wind. I've had a few just sit there, completely frozen, for several minutes. Other times, they will burst fairly quickly. But, once they are fully frozen, they don't photograph as well since they are pretty much completely white then. So, you need to take photos before completely freezing.

Yes, the bottom half is frozen in the above shot, while the top half is still liquid.

It actually doesn't take many tries to get a good photo. I took hundreds of photos because each bubble freezes differently, so I like to have a variety to choose from. However, I'd say about 95% are in focus.

I love it when I find flowers like these.🩵
My eyes aren't as good as they used to be, and these beauties are only 5mm across (I just went back outside, and measured them 😄).

Such delicate perfection.

I love these little flowers but find them hard to take a good photo of, because they're so tiny.
You've done a great job!

Michael, thank you so much for the compliment 🌟🌟🌟
I think flowers like these are extraordinarily beautiful.
It's as if they are fighting against everything that the universe throws at them, to prove that size doesn't matter.
