Wow, that is pretty dense. It looks to me that the soil around the root system has been washed away. Is there an open body of water behind you that would allow waves to wash the soils away?

This is in a bayou below a dam. It releases quite a bit of water in the rainy season. As much as 10-15 feet above the level in this picture.
