Post Your Finches

Lovely. I can only dream of shooting a Redpoll. They're not that common where I live and whevener I see them they are always tiny specks in the tops of trees. Without fail.

Thanks Jack.

That example was near the coast in Sussex, but we do get them in the garden too, both in late winter/early spring, seen a few at the feeders today.
They love the sunflower hearts, but also go for the Niger seed and even peck at the nuts if more dominant birds are monopolising the feeders.

If you are in the SW you do have a chance unless you are in Wales (not sure I would call that SW, more mid west).

Thanbks, Lester. I did have one in the garden once, many years ago, before I had a camera. A very out-of-range record, that was. I do know several spots where I can go to see them (in the tops of trees :) ), but they don't breed locally. The best views I ever had were years ago when I was staying up near Aviemore. A flock moved past me in a birch wood at eye level. Enchanting!

We get them here on the east coast of Scotland, but it's not one I ever come across when walking about. Only ever seen it on feeders. A bit more common at our club fishing loch, south of Callander. But again, I've only ever managed to get one with the camera when they have been on the feeders...
