This thread topic was one of my favorites on POTN and I'd love to see it continue. My shots don't hold a candle to some of the great talent that thread contained, but hopefully this recent shot will be a good starting point.

Original description for the thread from user "JakAHearts" on POTN: "I stole this idea from another forum but shooting my family and its daily events, especially the things that seem monotonous, has fast become my favorite photography. I love trying to document the mundane by trying to choose exciting compositions or exploring light. I made a small thread in the kids section that was well received so I thought, why not? Everyone post your favorite family photojournalism images here!"

I'm so glad you imported this topic. Now other previous contributors may find it and join in. You can also repost older photos. Repetition is fine; at this stage, building up the forum is a goal.

Back when I was first getting into macro, I would shoot any little thing out in the yard to show my sister’s grandkids. They loved it then started helping me by catching things for me. Once when I was coming over, they had caught this baby toad. They had dropped it so many times that it was playing dead to escape their attention.
I had normally been just shooting things in their little hands, but about this time discovered how easy it was, with greater depth of field to shoot wide angle, so found the shots were more fun if it included their face, so got them to hold things up, or my camera lower, so their faces were included.

These were so much fun to send out to all our other aunts and uncles and their cousins! I liked in this next one, their dad is photobombing by throwing back a cold one while Alex is taking a turn in his Bob the builder gear! 😂IMG_0440.jpeg

When we first built the cabin, there were lots of little frogs of about 7 species around the yard that I would enlist their help to catch. Then one froggy night their dad and I were out in the boat and I managed to catch a nice bullfrog which I saved in a pail until morning. When the kids got up, I got them excited about something wonderful to share with them.
When I pulled it out, their eyes got BIG! Both were a little afraid of it. I tried to get Audra to kiss it, that maybe there was a witch cursed prince locked inside. She was reluctant, and air-kissed didn’t help the poor fellow escape though.

Alex finally came around to touching its toe before finally asking if he could hold it. Oh I wish I had been a half step further back so the frogs long legs would have been in this shot! 🤪IMG_0691.jpeg
Oh man did I have some fun with those kids down at the cabin we named Frogwarts, with me the crazy uncle being the grand wizard!
