Post Your Castle, Fort & Tower Photos

We were at this fort about four years ago Lester, The original round towers are from the reign of King Henry VIII, its a great one to visit !

Not actually been around, just flown over it. Also a good area of mud flats for birds near by. Must visit sometime.

Fab. We were in Lisbon earlier this year and I wanted to do a day trip to Sintra, but we decided there was to much in the town to see on a first visit.

Was it a hard climb up from the bus stop?

For us, Lisbon was a bit of a disappointment, but our day trip to Sintra truly saved the experience. I wouldn’t recommend walking up to Pena Palace—or to the Moorish Castle, for that matter. The climb from the bus stop near the Sintra train station is quite steep. If you’re referring instead to where the bus drops you off closer to the Moorish Castle, then no, that part isn’t too bad.

We took the 7 a.m. train from Lisbon for a 10 a.m. timed entry to Pena Palace and barely made it, so unless you’re driving, I’d suggest allowing more than three hours to get there. If you plan to visit Pena Palace, it’s also worth purchasing the shuttle ticket from the park entrance up to the palace itself.

While Pena Palace turned out to be a bit underwhelming, both the Moorish Castle and Quinta da Regaleira far exceeded our expectations.
