Dennis, I’m curious about the larva or grub that is greatly ahead of the eggs above that are in nest cavities older than it. Do you suppose they give it special treatment to produce a new queen, or what?

Hi Keith

We have had some ferocious storms of late, and they have damaged parts of the nest. It appears that some of it has been re-built, so it is hard to tell the old from the new.

Also, I sometimes see a chamber or cell with a maturing larva in it, then a few days later it is gone. I cannot even tell you if they re-use a vacated cell to lay a new egg, it is all a mystery to me.
