A very unusual bridge within a Japanese shrine, with an architecturally odd alteration.
No. Not that one at the top.
It's the bridge I'm standing on.
Water plays a dominant role within Japanese mythology, so of course there's a stream running through this shrine.
But the curve you can clearly see in the original stonework of this 18 metre-wide, beautiful, historical bridge, was removed and flattened!
Crossing the city this morning, and I thought I'd grab a couple of shots of one of the bridges for the Bullet Train.
Utterly functional, safe, strong, attack resistant, boring & dull.
I know that they, and the tracks & trains are marvels of engineering, but honestly, a bit of paint from local kids wherever they traverse the streets wouldn't be amiss, surely.
A different take, on the thread title. Under a big bridge in the city...
One of the large, rubber, earthquake & expansion/contraction supports.
The nuts holding it in place are as big as my fist.
And, one of the rainwater drain-pipes.
Which is also earthquake proofed.
Cheers for now,
Simon
