I think you should have stopped with "good glass." All I did was to point the camera at the bird and press the shutter.

But seriously, the trick is to be on a tripod whenever possible (of course this isn't always possible) to minimize camera shake and a fast shutter speed to minimize subject movement. With modern sensors and excellent PP tools for NR, I never afraid to crank up the ISO if needed to ensure good shutter speed.

I think there is something off about this tree, it's almost like it's watching me, pretending to be asleep with an eye just barely open...

Great horned owl fluffing itself and blending in really good in slightly better lighting conditions from when I first spotted him last year. Still didn't get the trademark eyes open shot, but I'll take it
