Crazy detail on this one Sam! Def shows what the R7 can do with good glass and a skilled user!
I think you should have stopped with "good glass." All I did was to point the camera at the bird and press the shutter. :D

But seriously, the trick is to be on a tripod whenever possible (of course this isn't always possible) to minimize camera shake and a fast shutter speed to minimize subject movement. With modern sensors and excellent PP tools for NR, I never afraid to crank up the ISO if needed to ensure good shutter speed.
 
I think there is something off about this tree, it's almost like it's watching me, pretending to be asleep with an eye just barely open... :unsure:

Great horned owl fluffing itself and blending in really good in slightly better lighting conditions from when I first spotted him last year. Still didn't get the trademark eyes open shot, but I'll take it :)
