Great photo. Is this common, a heron eating a mammal? I've only ever seen such birds (here in Australia) eating fish and crustaceans.
They are opportunists and will eat just about anything they can catch. This particular heron has a habit of hunting in a small urban farm which has a very large population of voles.Great photo.
