Eared Grebe.

Grebes are one of those birds that require water for "landing" or taking flight. One evening a flock of them mistook a rural roadway for a river and tried to put themselves down. The next day my wife saw a story about it so we went to investigate and help if possible. An animal rescue group was on scene and we helped gather the birds that had survived and were now stranded. Once close enough to the bird we covered it with a small, light blanket and the birds were instantly calm. Then we could pick them up and put them in a holding crate for travel. I grabbed a couple shots before it was all over.

Quite similar to the Slavonian grebe. There were only 20 breeding pairs in the UK in 2021. However, one of the lochs we fish in the Loch Ness area has 2 pairs on it, and it's possible to get shots of them if they wander close to our boat while fishing. This from 2023...

A reddish egret catching a tine snack. If you ever visit Ft. De Soto, be sure and walk along the tidal stream on North Beach if you want to see reddish egrets. You might even see the white morph reddish egret that hangs out around there.

Fascinating behaviour. I was surprised to see the Sparrow loitering on the nest at the start of the sequence, and the Starling (?) on a branch - no fear!

Mum and Dad are quite the architect and builder.

I've had my eye on this nesting pair of swans for a couple of months. Today I saw they had hatched. As usual, I had the "wrong" lens on my R5 - my RF14-35L - and there is a wire fence in front of them to protect them, but I managed this one.

This nest and at least 1 other in my area have sparrows living inside the nest below the eagles. I see them going in and out almost every time I view the nest.
Some of these nests are massive, they keep adding to them every year.

Interestingly enough, a lot of small passerines nest close to eagle nests. They know that the eagles do not pose a threat to them but they keep away hawks, ravens, and other predators that do.
