For those who did not know, the Palace of Fine Arts is hardly a 'palace' in the conventional sense. It was originally built for the 1915 Panama–Pacific International Exposition, a world's fair held in San Francisco, to exhibit works of art. Of course, there are a number of examples of such 'World Fair' and 'Olympics' structures around the world that continue usage far beyond their original intention.
