I have saving some of my old (Reduced size) picture files that I had put into POTN, as I had a major loss sometime back when my old laptop died on me and lots of pic files where deleted, anyway I have been saving them then putting them back through my LR5.7 and improving the contrast - white point - colour etc then sending them into Topaz Denois AI where they even get smart sharpening befor returning to LR where they are then upsized to 1600 on the long side.
This particular picture was 900 long side before it got the above treatment the up sized to 1600 - what do you think.

I am viewing on my phone, and image looks nice and clean. I like the photo. 😊

I think the robin looks too "smooth", especially the lower body.
There are some weird sharpening artifacts on the plant part in the upper left corner.
Have you tried up-sizing with Topaz Gigapixel AI or Photo AI before doing anything else to the image? Maybe that might give a slightly better result.

I dont have either of those only my LR5.7 and Topaz Denoise AI (latest update version) to be fair this file was far from perfect and was very small and it had already been worked on a few times then saved in POTN.

Maybe upsize and finish the LR work before you send it to Topaz.

Is Topaz running in auto mode? Maybe try Topaz manually with varying strength settings. Compare various results.

Yes indeed Chuck, Topaz can either over sharpen or be to aggresive with softening the noise and detail in Auto, I do mess around with the sliders including the big one - oroginal detail Topaz tends to leave this high by default - so I reduce it to 5 or there abouts.

Any chance that you'd give us the original file to play around with?
Alas No, I lost the original years ago, all I was left with was the posted small jpeg file I uploaded into POTN and then saved back into my hdd, it was only 900 pix long side when I saved it back from POTN I then re worked it and re sized it from 900 to 1600.

Sorry for not being clear. With "original file" I meant the one you saved from POTN.

Good seeing you again Pagman. I'm going to take a different route and comment on the artistic merits if you dont mind. I'll leave some of the technical comments to the others but what REALLY impresses me about this shot is your WONDERFUL light. It looks like the little guy is welcoming the morning sun at the perfect angle, with the spotlight on his face. Your timing was superb. Yes, there are some sharpness issues but I love the artistry you captured here - well done!

Nice shot but he lighting looks unreal as if from too many angles .

Thank you so much, it was shot in September about 5pm, not sure where the sun was but there was also some dappled shade.

It looks a bit unnatural, probably a combo of the edits you used but I wouldn’t say it’s bad. Especially for being recovered!

I'm with @Jon on this.
On a teeny-tiny smartphone screen, it looks incredibly good 😊👍

But then again, so do a handful of my photos 🤣

So I'd say, don't overthink the processing/sharing online part.

Enjoy the chase of the photo itself; if you're "into" the gear side, enjoy that bit too.

If you're going to print & sell images, that's another conversation. But not for here.

Cheers for now,
Simon

Thank you so much for all the replies, I think I proved to myself that up scaling a pic file even by more than double, cann still be done to save an old jpeg if you have lost the original RAW file.

Sadly, I don't think there is much you can do with this image. I'm viewing this on a 32" 4k monitor and it's showing everything that a phone screen doesn't show so I have to agree with the others about the sharpening, the upsizing, the lack of detail, etc. Being shot in Jpeg probably didn't help, either. I like the image itself, the angle of the bird looking toward the morning sun is nice and the light appears to be nice and warm, and the colors are very pretty.
