Just to be clear, the guy on the bench is just a guy on a bench and not part of the sculpture. ;)

Mitchell South Dakota has the Corn Palace. it opened during the great depression as venue for dances and other public stuff. the novelty of it was that its exterior is decorated with many different types of corn on the cob. the theme changes every year and they have local artists do the design work and then these big murals are put up on the walls

2019 driving our daughter from north of detroit in michigan to fairbanks alaska, we went through SoDak so i could show wife and daughter the Corn Palace and Mt Rushmore. this is the corn palace.

the ship on the far right of the last picture is the USS South Dakota, lead ship of the 4-ship South Dakota class battleships built 1939-1942

USS South Dakota BB-57 was scrapped
USS Indiana BB-58 was scrapped
USS Massachusetts BB-59 in Fall River Massachusetts in 'Battleship Cove' as a museum ship
USS Alabama BB-60 in Mobile Alabama in 'Battleship Memorial Park' as a museum ship
