People I See

Monday_13-November-2023

Ms Eva

Bringing dinner to the hungry blacktop crew.

Interesting note about these two photos:
Both are timestamped in exactly the same second.
In that second, neither myself nor any part of the camera/lens has been moved.
Both originals are the same size; the second one here has been cropped.
She has backed off the road in someone's yard and is pulling back onto the road; probably moving at less than a mile an hour.
Note how far forward the truck has advanced within that portion of a second.
Also note that she has turned her head, spotted me, recognized me, and began to smile at me, all in less than a second.

"The Spirit of the American Doughboy"

Located in the inside corner of Wall Street and Cleveland Avenue.

The E.M.Viquesney "The Spirit of the American Doughboy" statue is of the original 1920-copyright sheet bronze version.

The Doughboy was originally dedicated November 11, 1929, the 11th day of the 11th month of the 11th year after the Armistice.

In comparison, the original Jamestown Kentucky 1934-copyright version of the Doughboy is of less expensive cast zinc and was dedicated 11-November-1937, nineteen years after the Armistice.

Well worth a Look:

Known Locations:

According to the information, there are only eight Doughboys in Kentucky; with an overabundant 120 counties in Kentucky, it speaks well that Russell County is one of the eight; Russell also shares boundaries with two more of the eight, Wayne and Casey.

Note that the information for Jamestown is a bit outdated; their Doughboy has been destroyed yet again since 2008.

The old boy stood there for 71 years, unscathed through three wars, to get killed by a drunk driver; this is a testament to the driving abilities of Russell Countians; as, where the Doughboy has always been located, one would have to really try hard to make contact with a vehicle, let alone obliterate it.

Jack and Edith

Jack = 14-March-1913~24-April-2002(89)

Edith = 19-January-1913~14-October-2007(94)

On paper, Edith was born in 1913; she was actually born 1914 and the old granny woman who delivered her and then wrote out her birth certificate was still stuck on writing 1913.

Edith went to sign up for Social Security when she really was 65-yrs-old in 1979; her birth certificate said otherwise; Edith argued with them and tried to convince them that she was born in 1914, not 1913; but, they went by the wrong-dated birth certificate and gave her an entire years back pay on account of her being 66-yrs-old instead of 65-yrs-old.

So....., according to that, Edith was only 93-yrs-old when she died, not 94.
