Well I did something stupid though don't know how it was done.
Moved some pictures files from one location to a new location. Trying to reorganize my pictures files but some how the pictures are gone. Not in the old location or the new location.
The only thing left is that I can still see the pictures in LR. Can bring them up in both the Library and Deployment mode. I know that the original files are gone but is there any way to get these LR previews downloaded to a file folder? That way at least I'll have the memories saves even if I can't do anything else with the pictures.
Thanks, Craig

I think I know what happened and you may be able to recover them. I need to know a few things first.

  • Did you move the images to another location while LR was *not* running or was it running?
  • Regardless, did you move them using Windows File Explorer or do a copy/move/paste within Windows ?

This is water over the dam, but for the future: If you are moving photos that are already in the Lightroom catalog, always move them from withing Lightroom. Otherwise, Lightroom has no way of knowing where they are.

I would do two things. First, use a good file search utility and let it search your entire drive (or, quicker, the entire area under your user name) for one or two of the photos by name. If they are on your disk and haven't been deleted, that should show where. If they don't show up, look in your recycle bin. Sort the bin by date deleted to put the most recent deletions at the top, using the date tab at the top.

Thanks will try all suggestions given here so far. Maybe I can still find the original files. So far I did find the LR preview photo which show up on screen nicely and they have the post process changes on them too so I at least have the picture memories of that last rode trip.
