So in the catch all Nature and Landscape forum you can post pictures of orchid species, or if you like pictures of barns? This is just stupid!!! You want to replace POTN but you have just blown of categories important to serious photographers. Once again...Ugh!

Are you thinking that the Staff created a thread called Orchids and Barns. Yes a strange choice, I'll admit.
II don't see that thread in Nature and Landscapes. Can you send me a link?

I see nothing wrong with a Barn photo thread.
Members create threads as you are also welcome to do especially if you have a particular interest. It was that way at POTN.
I don't really understand your complaint.

My point is that incuding a forum category that is so catch all as "Nature and Landscape" which includes both photographs of orchid species, photos of other nature subjects and pictures of barns is a terrible oversite on the part of the creators od Focus on Photography

Here is a screenshot showing how barns got posted in Nature and Landscapes on POTN too, so not sure why you are so angry.

Pitter, it was the exact same on POTN.

Um ... POTN also has a Nature and Landscape category. Still Life, B&W, Experimental is broad as well, but I don't see anyone losing their minds about that.

Ok fine I withdraw the comment.
It’s okay to be critical, Pitter, as long as you have your facts straight.

I would like to note that we are not trying to replace POTN. It's said at the beginning that POTN cannot be replaceable. Our motive is to create a forum that will be similar to POTN for us to enjoy and continue our community that we love.

The creators of Focus on Photography are members as well and we try our very best to keep it positive. POTN will unfortunately be gone, but the community will not be lost.

It's theoretically possible that grouping such diverse subject matter as orchids and barns was a terrible mistake at POTN, too. However, if you were to cut the range of photographable things into thinner and thinner slices, you'd end up with a lot of subforums, each one requiring a click to enter and a click to leave. That's a time waster. People can always disagree about how to form an authentic system of categories.

Many years ago I suggest a flora forum on POTN, this was rejected (no justification given) but pointed out it came under Nature and Landscape.

Of course we had the old POTN issue of birds being posted in wildlife or even sometimes nature. The principle there was use the most specific forum.

In the case of barns in could be landscape or architecture or B+W if monochrome rendered.

I don't think we need to stress too much about categories, life is complicated, go with the flow.
