Obligatory Duck ..... post your "first" duck pic here!

I didn't know about this thread on POTN either. Can't remember when I took my first duck photo but as a first for me in having ducks in the garden and their cuteness this is my offering.

Where's the button for "Aww!"?

These two have different markings. Are they from different clutches or just of different ages?

Yes, strange isn't it. As far as I know from the same clutch as they came from a wild duck nest in a neighbouring garden. I'll post some pictures of them in Wild Birds of Europe as I did previously on POTN.

First duck with some new software. Took an otherwise uninspiring picture and turned it into this. It's a little over the top. I'm not going to claim any credit for this.

Duck(s maybe) from when my 200-400 was new (to me).

I got a real one! My first real duck!

I was out by the Potomac River in East Potomac Park to get pics of planes taking off from Washington DC Reagan National Airport (DCA), and this guy landed in the water a few feet away from me.

I've got lots of ducks around me, but I've not captured pictures.
Is it inappropriate for me to post herons?

I wouldn't. And don't even think about posting a Coot, believing that it more or less kinda looks enough like a duck 🦆 and that it that might count for this thread. :bricks:

LOL David, as much as you would like coots to be ducks, they really aren’t. Herons aren’t either.

Now, are non-ducks welcome in this thread? I don’t know, that’s for Tom to decide as he started this thread. Problem is he hasn’t been around for a while. Not unusual for him to disappear for months on end, especially this time of year. However, in his absence, playing it safe seems the best policy for now: post ducks.

There's a Jeep tradition called "ducking" that I wasn't aware of until recently. A Jeep driver gifts a rubber duck to another Jeep driver who then displays it on the dashboard. Some have large collections.

I noted one such Jeep in my neighborhood some time last year, still oblivious to the trend. Then early this year while walking the neighborhood with a new camera, I discovered there were others--many others. And I can't stop myself from documenting them.

Help ....

Got all their ducks in a row, I see.

That Jeep thing is an iteresting tidbit that'll heighten my awareness of it,
while it doesn't seem to absolve me of actual shooting of ducks.

It seems that I need to get at shooting the ducks around here.
