Notification List

Not sure if this is correct area but it's linked to the last posts notifications.
When I click the link to "Joe blow posted to birds" in Alerts, it doesn't take me there but somewhere on the page
This is one example "David Watts replied to....

Is that normal?
That is how they work unfortunately but not normal in my mind. I've disabled them as they are of no use. I've been using them elsewhere and it's the same.

Another method that I like a lot to keep up with threads I'm active in, is to click on Watched Threads (in the Watched pull down menu). You get a list and everything that has new posts is in bold. I click on the thread and I go to where I last left off. I only have a few items for the notifications now, likes being one of them. Works well for me.

Thanks for input Levina, Joeseph and Bill
On my Phone there's also a lightning icon
Takes me to What's New
It doesn't show on my tablet.
Is that in some setting or just how it works on phones?
I don't normally use my phone for this

funny - haven't noticed the lightning icon before you mention it! - looks like on a mobile, that's the same link/URL as "What's new" tab on a desktop

*learns something new every day...

Well, yes. That is the icon for New Posts. On the iPhone they just omitted the words. Aha!

Oh yes, usually just above.

Looks like the code finds the position of the message but references that to the bottom of the screen rather than the top.

One you realise it is a little scroll.

Better algorithm would be top at top or bottom of message at bottom of screen.

But it is what it is.

Two other forums I'm on using this software takes you right to the post.
I reckon there's got to be a tweak
Interesting hold (stylus) and open in new window takes me right there

More on this. Found a repeatable oddity
Click a notification and it takes me somewhere other than the link.
In this case #112, second use #118
In that same window click same notification and it takes me straight to the correct post

I just liked your post. Did you get a notification under the bell con?
I got five in the last few minutes. But there were none for 4 or 5 hours. There must have been a server hiccup or something. Looks normal now, whatever it was. I didn't log out or back in. Just worked itself out, I guess. Thanks!

EDIT: Just to add that another XF forum I'm on and participate enough in, sometimes doesn't notify every hour or sometimes even a day at a time. When I dig in deeper to find posts and threads, there have been dozens of posts and responses in threads I've been watching, but not visible on their "bell" on top. Almost normal behavior for that forum, though I've not yet seen it here, until today. Could be that when a forum has grown and gets busy enough that something changes in the main XF server config to cache notifications and such that they need to reach a certain threshold to push out? (non-techy talk)

The links in notifications is still causing grief
If I click the link in "reacted to your post " it takes me somewhere else
If I hold on the notification and use "copy link" option and paste into new window it works as expected.
Often clicking the link it instantly takes me to the post then just as quickly flies off elsewhere

Now in midst of writing this I see holding (I'm using stylus on Samsung tablet) and "open in new window" it takes me right to the linked post.
And from that window a clicked notification takes me there
It's weird. Almost as though the program knows its being reported so best shape up :ROFLMAO:

But no, it's not consistent, more often contrary.

Edit: I clicked on the link to one notification (https://focus-on-photography-forum.net/posts/47828/ ) and it took me here https://focus-on-photography-forum.net/threads/post-your-mountains.755/post-47719

This also seems to be the norm in my use as well. Someone has reacted to a post of mine, I click the notification link, and I'm then somewhere on the correct page, but several posts away from the one the notification is pointing to. I can figure it out, but this is weird behavior. But it also sometimes gets it just right.

I don’t have an answer, but I’m experiencing similar behavior intermittently…

I think this depends on how many images are on the subject page.

The algorithm seems to work well with pages that are text but if there are images it is almost as if the algorithm sets the scroll position before it knows how much space the images will take up.
