I think it's incredibly difficult to represent majestic mountains, terrifying oceans, and earth-splitting events in a little photo.

Wouldn’t it be a bit unnerving living right there at the base of the volcano? Or is the shape of the mountain such that any debris from an eruption would go on the far side?

I've been here 20 years, so I'm used to it.
But yes, it's utterly insane being so close, especially if I tell you the last major eruption filled in part of the bay, changing it from an island-volcano, to a connected spur!
And the one before that resulted in house-sized ejecta flying as far as South Korea!
