Look Up!

Looking Up, literally. Yerkes Observatory, Williams Bay, Wisconsin, USA. Built in 1897, this 40-inch refracting telescope had it's debut at Chicago's World Columbian Exhibition in 1893, prior to the observatory's building being finished. Edwin Hubble did his graduate work here, as did Carl Sagan. In 1921, Albert Einstein visited this observatory with other notables for a conference. The entire floor raises and lowers around the telescope, which is firmly attached to the building's foundation.
