How about those macro face shots. Lets see what y'all have.

To start off, a common cicada mugging for the camera. These guys are pretty easy to get a portrait shot as their normal state is standing still. No fidgeting with these guys.

6 image stack taken with the MPE-65

Thought I'd toss up another. This one is 3d. To get the effect, cross your eyes until a third center image forms. Takes a little practice but the 3d pops right out if done correctly. Sometimes it helps to put your finfer about midway between your eyes and the screen. Then remove it.

Brian did a lot of these, could never get it work - just eye strain!! :ROFLMAO:

A little wild bee, taken with the MP-E 65mm and an Extender. I really tried to max out on magnification (the photo is uncropped). Using high magnifications unfortunately brings along heavy diffraction softening, but can't have it all, I guess.

Thanks. That's a manual advance one. The shots were taken with the 80D and the MP-E 65mm, so focus bracketing was not an option.
A a classic approach good chap. I even used to do the the actual compositing manually using Photoshop masks.

I only did my first R62 Depth Composit job on some mushrooms and stuff the other week. Did the actual Composit in post of course.

Interested to try with handhealds with insects in the spring. Though as you say not with MP-e.

I've been using focus bracketing with the R5 (mostly for dragonflies and damselflies) and so far it has been working very well for me - fantastic feature. I use Zerene for the stacking, very capable program.

first post one from summer past, dung fly i think taken with 7DMKii 100 f2.8 not the L series with couple of extension tubes. hopefully be using stacking next year when it warms up about a 50 % crop of origonal size
