I've read about the people who do this, with the neck rings. Amazing. Is this stil a practice? For real, I mean, and not just for tourists (as I imagine it will attract tourists)?

Yes it is still widely done - they start at a very young age. It does attract tourists but the more remote vilages do it as well.
