On the last day of our birding trip to Japan we paid a visit to the Jigokudani Snow Monkey Park to see the Japanese Macaques. Although they are found in other parts of Japan, this particular troop is famous for bathing in the hot springs. It's now a very crowded tourist attraction, but the monkeys are interesting.

Beautiful shots! I've always wanted to see these monkeys. I think I'll have a chance next February. I'm planning to visit Hokkaido to hopefully get on a boat to see Steller's sea eagles, and hopefully I can make a detour to see these guys in winter.

Thanks! Seeing them falls into the category of "Glad I went, but don't need to go again". I would definitely enjoy another trip to Hokkaido, there are other far away places I haven't been to yet.

The human visitors were all very polite, but there were A LOT of them.
