I go away for 3 months and POTN falls apart

Hi Mike. Lol, yeah, maybe it was the G&N forum. So you caught up on that discussion eh?

I'm glad to see you. Just in time. Welcome!!
Nope. still trying to figure it all out. Looks ike we are missing a lot of Guys. Where do you find members.Jake , teamspeed, some of these guys are w wealth of knowledge

I think we all have theories but ultimately, it was Pekka's personal decision. Sad to see POTN go, but I really believe Focus is a fantastic alternative.

Jake is here, on the staff. Teamspeed, yeah, I have reached out to him, sent him an email. But have not heard back. Not sure what else we can do to reach him.

If there are others, maybe like you that have not heard of POTNs closure, fell free to PM them on POTN or send one of the mods their POTN user name and we'll try to reach out to them. We are trying to invite all to join Focus.

umphotography, threads in Forum Talk on POTN give the story of what happened. Start with Pekka's.

It's becoming evident that great numbers of POTN members don't know we're here. The thread "How to publicize this forum?," a few rows down in Forum Talk here (not POTN's), tells some of the reaching-out that's been done and some that has yet to be done. It's a big job.

We're trying to avoid offending Pekka by spamming his board with announcements. Unfortunately, identifying and PMing individuals is slow work. I changed my signature at POTN to advertise Focus, making myself feel like I'm walking around wearing a sandwich board all the time there. A sig does bring in a few people.

That is how I got here... I was told to pick up and move, dammit.. Nah actually, I was invited to the focus since I heard about POTN closing, but I was not looking in the right places for how to move. I was typically in the lighting and flash forum on POTN and that isn't the best place for getting site news.

I guess find the people you like on POTN, and send them a message???

sure! might pay to check they're not already onboard first though...
there are still folks that haven't realised that POTN will be closing.

The effort to spread the news isn't so organized as to get systematic coverage. Individuals are doing different things. Some of us put a link in our sigs. Some post explicit messages in POTN threads and in replies to posts where it seems that the person who posted doesn't know. Some send PMs. I've concentrated on frequent contributors to major long-running threads in forums I'm familiar with, especially people who started those threads.

For a couple of months, Focus was discussed in a thread in Forum Talk which was recently locked. Unfortunately, Forum Talk isn't what members usually look at. As a courtesy, we tried not to promote Focus in Pekka's Forum Talk thread. Lately, as time grows short, some of us got less courteous.

All methods are good, the more different paths we have, the more folks will get the message. I have been PMing for weeks now and still come across folks that have not heard of us. Everyone has a different way they engage with the forum it seems, so please, continue spreading the word in any way you feel appropriate.
