I started this thread at POTN in August of 2010. I convinced Jake to make it a sticky and it was well received. 4,504,689 views and 12,962 replies.......There is 13 yrs of pictures and information about lighting, posing and technique that is about to be lost to the ages. So....lets start the rebuild process.
For outdoor portraits I learned years ago to put clients backs to the sun and fill mildly from the front. I never shoot past F/2.0-2.5 and I use the Sigma 85 art or canons 135L. It doesnt mater what mod you put in front of the light source. Results will look similar. I adapted this technique for all my wedding formals and portraits and clients loved the results. 800 weddings later , and I dont know how many seniors I have photographed, Our business was very successful using these lighting techniques. We always shoot OCF so we could control the lighting....especially for mid day hard light needs. We could not always shoot in the magic hour lighting for seniors. Its it never failed, for weddings it was 12-200PM for formals so OCF wth backs to the sun was the only way to go.
We need to start this thread here and hopefully it will be well received again.
I will be back home in January and I can start adding poses and looks for this thread. Hoping everyone at POTN that shoots HS seniors will jump on and start to rebuild this thread here at focus on photography
