Hand Strap for a Lumix FZ200 Bridge Camera

I received my Lumix FZ200 the other day and went to attach my hand strap that I have used on all my DSLRs, but It wont fit - it obscures the battery door meaning the plate would need to be loosened and turned around so I could open the battery door to gain access to both the battery and card - this is made worse by the tripod socket mounting thread being just 8mm away from the side of the battery door.

And ideas please.

Its like this one - pic off the net.

The gap between the tripod mount and batt door is about 5-8mm - dont know why the did not centre the mount.
