For this mini, please share photos that include the sun in one way or another. I am hoping that this topic is broad enough to encourage lots of participation! You may enter 1-3 photos, giving each one a title.

This challenge will end on Thursday, Jun 19, at 6 pm (EST) - a little less than 2 weeks from now - so I have time to post the results before heading overseas.

Here are a few examples of photos that fit this theme:

1) Silhouette on Captive Island, FL

2) All Eyes on the Setting Sun

The winner of this challenge will run the next mini-challenge!

I'm gonna have to dig deep for this one. I have a few, but nothing stellar.

1. End of the total eclipse, Apr 25. The last bit of the moon was moving out.

2. The Narrows at Zion National Park. My all-time favorite hike anywhere. (This is a cell phone shot, btw. Samsung S7 from 2016.)

3. Here Comes the Sun. Cadillac Mountain Sunrise at Acadia National Park

@Mike_d and @MTalley - Thank you for your entries! I am enjoying seeing the variety of images in this thread.

Malcolm, you are welcome to share up to 3 entries if you want to come back and add more later. :)

I tend to discard photos with 'sun flare' but I do have a few where the sun is low enough on the horizon or it is obscured by something so it doesn't just overpower the photo but it is still visible and not below the horizon

1. Sunset - Mallory Square, Key West

2. Morning sun on new snow

3. Christmas Eve Sunset

This mini is now closed. Now for the difficult task of judging winners and honorable mentions! An extra challenge is that we had a powerful storm come through our area yesterday and still don’t have power. But hoping to post results later today.

Thank you all for sharing such beautiful photos related to the Sun. It was a joy to watch these show up in the thread and very difficult to pick the winners and honorable mentions! I started by making a list of my favorite photos from each participant and why they stood out for me.

@slpollett - Great capture of the eclipse and fun to see rays of sun reaching into the Narrows, but my favorite of this set is your Cadillac Mountain Sunrise at Acadia National Park. Beautiful colors!

@Mike_d Your capture of the sunset on the rocks is quite striking. Lovely light on the foreground, great depth and an interesting sky.

@MTalley Beautiful capture of the sunset over Oahu!

@MakisM1 - Wow! Gorgeous shot of the sun while in Kruger National Park!

@great grandma Rosalie - Great capture of the sunset in Key West with the unusual color of the water and the ship in the background.

@tamnitok - "Sleepy shores" is such a lovely, interesting composition! Where was this taken?

@bfluegie - Stunning capture of the solar eclipse with that diamond ring effect! Also fun to see your beautiful capture of the sunrise in the Great Smoky Mountains.

@aeon - Such an intriguing silhouette! I also like the image you titled "Big ND Time."

Honorable mentions

@tamnitok for "Sleepy Shores" One of my favorites with the subtle colors and great composition!

@great grandma Rosalie for "Sunset, Mallory Square, Key West"

@aeon for "Silhouette"

@MTalley for "Sunset over Oahu"

@slpollett for "Here Comes the Sun"

The Winners

3rd place: @MakisM1 for "Kruger National Park Sunset"

2nd place tie: @bfluegie for "Sunrise, Great Smoky Mountains" and "2025 Solar Eclipse Diamond Ring." (It was too hard for me to choose between them even though they are very different kinds of shots.)

1st place: @Mike_d for "Sunset on the Rocks" I just kept coming back to this one.

Congratulations! @Mike_d looking forward to seeing what you come up with for the next Mini Challenge!

@Mike_d Checking whether you have posted or are planning to post a new mini challenge? If you prefer, the “baton” can be passed to @bfluegie as the second place winner. But if you are happy to do this, that’s great.

Thanks again to all who participated. Great photos!

(I am traveling overseas now but thought I’d check in to see how things are going.)
