Flickr Red X of Death

Thanks

As discussed, other sites running XenForo (but an older release than FoP) is not showing the same symptom... apparently these older sites use some form of plugin for XenForo which is no longer required with their current branch ..?

Flickr use to have these image servers (staticflickr.com, farm1.staticflickr.com, or subsequent farms)

It has become more noticeable in the past few weeks, even with two images posted together, one would load and the other simply fails - so editing the post to remove the red-x one.

A change in the captures is the sensor mp has increased to 60mp but this seems to be a red-herring.. I have tried various iterations of the linked above stairs....

Another aspect could be that LrC is involved and was also updated ... the export to Flickr may have also changed an element of the image file format

Some examples

Interesting that republishing from LrC to Flickr (by making an edit) has now allowed the 'stairs' to show and no longer red-x

That might have been a red herring. Can you link the original image again to see if that works now? In a separate post. That is, leave both of them up.

Folks, Neil (ncsa) helped me debug this and we did a couple of things. He re-uploaded one of his photos to Flickr and used the new photo to hotlink to and I made an adjustment in the forum software settings. So I can't tell for sure if it was a combination of the two or it may have nothing to do with us and something changed on the Flickr end (I don't think this is the case), but we appear to have resolved many if not all of the red Xs.

I'm not ready to declare victory yet, so I have a request: If you have had one of your Flickr photos not display and had the dreaded red X either recently or in the past, can you go back and check to see if it has fixed itself? Let me know either way. Hopefully, we've got this problem licked. Fingers crossed.

Well folks, so far, so good! I’ve been monitoring the situation and we haven’t had any more red Xs, so I’m cautiously optimistic that we fixed the problem.

Now of course, it has been nighttime in North America where (presumably) the Flickr servers are, so it is possible that things may still crop up when demand for bandwidth surges. Please do update this thread if you encounter any issues. 🙏🏾

Appears the issue has returned ... cache to links failing

I had a lot of issues with Flickr yesterday, and it appears that the site had some issues. Let's give it some time - hopefully it will resolve itself. I will do some digging in the meantime to see what is going on.

Flickr has a status page that one can look at that reports uptime or downtime issues.

I just posted a photo hotlinked from Flickr in the bird portraits thread and it displays fine. But I did have a lot of issues yesterday although Joayne didn't. Seems like any problem that does exist is inconsistent. The worst kind, unfortunately.

Neil, all 5 photos you posted today seem to be displaying fine for me. Are there others you tried to post that wouldn't display? Can you provide a link?

Thanks!
Let me recheck. All the links in this thread had disappeared.. but now seem to be back again. I tried editing and reposting a link which failed to show. Thanks
