New CMOS sensor, improvements in AF and looks like more AI for subject tracking. Mouth watering….
From the Canon USA teaser:
“DIGIC Accelerator in addition to the pre-existing processor DIGIC X. The new image processing system, composed of these processors and a new CMOS sensor, enables large volume of data to be processed at high speeds and delivers never-before-seen advancements in Auto Focus (AF) and other functions.
By combining the new image processing system and deep learning technology to an advanced degree, Canon has achieved high-speed and high-accuracy subject recognition. For example, subject tracking accuracy has been improved so that in team sporting events where multiple subjects intersect, the target subject can continually be tracked even if another player passes directly in front of them. In addition, the AF “Action Priority” function recognizes subject movement by rapidly analyzing the subject’s status. In moments during a sports game when it is difficult to predict what will happen next, this function automatically determines the player performing a certain action, such as shooting a ball, as the main subject and instantly shifts the AF frame, thereby helping to capture decisive moments of gameplay.”
The AF AI blurb is close to a copy / paste of 1D blurb. Not 1DXIII, 1D.
Remember? 3 AF Modes: ONE SHOT, AI FOCUS, AI SERVO.
AI Focus AF is an autofocus mode found on most Canon EOS cameras, though it is only selectable as a mode on some models. This automatic focusing mode allows the camera to decide whether the subject is static or moving, and will select either One-shot AF or AI Servo AF (DSLR) / Servo AF (mirrorless) depending on what type of subject the camera senses – hence the ‘AI’ indicating artifical intelligence.
That's just one quote. Canon published lot's of information, with much use of the terms 'AI' and 'predictive'
I'm curious how Canon has managed to detect a dummy pass. Well, I'm not really, I don't believe they have.
So call me cynical on the AF blurb.
All brands have a history of exaggerating features and tech.
Strangely, in the case of Canon, I never saw them mention one of the massive benefits of the 7DII.
Many astro photographers chose the obvious 6D over the 7D2. How could a full frame sensor not out perform a crop?
For long exposures, the 7D2 did. The longer the exposure, the bigger the advantage. What test site tests this?
Roger Clark did and did Canon's marketing for free. Proper, genuine marketing info.
The 7DII was better than 6D, 1DX, 1DXII regarding long exposure noise.
Somewhere there is a Canon engineer with a severely damaged head from hitting a brick wall.
